We are excited to announce that Dr. Amanda Alonzo, our very own Director, will be speaking at the 16th Annual Transition Conference organized by the San Gabriel/Pomona Parents’ Place. The conference will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Coronado Alternative School in West Covina, CA.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Life After High School…What You Need To Know,” and it is free to attend. The conference is for parents, caregivers, professionals, and youth aged between 14-22 who have or had an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan.

Dr. Amanda Alonzo will share her experience as someone on the Autism spectrum and provide insight on how to help those with disabilities see their potential. Her speech will take place from 12:25 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.

The conference will start with registration/check-in from 8:30 am – 9:00 a.m. The keynote speaker for the event is Mr. Ollie Cantos, who will share his life’s experience and how he broke new ground and paved the way for others to follow. Mr. Cantos is the first individual with a visible disability ever elected to the City Council since West Covina’s founding in February 1923.

After the keynote speech, you can visit vendors (including Blu Alliance Counseling Center’s booth!) and meet entrepreneurs during the brunch. The event will have several activities, including a live performance by Alex Wu (Auitistrong), who will share his success in becoming a composer and artist.

This year, the conference is excited to have entrepreneurs of all abilities and businesses that seek to train and employ people with disabilities among their vendor lineup. Not only do they want to showcase these fantastic businesses, but they want you to have the opportunity to learn from them too! Inquire about their journey to business ownership or how to apply for employment with their company. Visit other key agencies to ensure success and ask as many questions as you need to start thinking about your life path after high school.

Join us for a brunch sponsored by Mr. Ollie Cantos and the Castucci Foundation. To register or to know more about the conference, click below on the flyers provided in the langues of English, Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese. We look forward to seeing you at the event!
